Victorian SW6 921
|
921.
Iconic Melbourne “SW6” class Melbourne tram, built in 1946 at Preston Workshops. Allocated to Camberwell Depot for most of its life. 14.7 metres long, 2.73 metres wide, 3.16+ metres high and weighing 17.5 tonnes. Seated 52 passengers. Currently housed inside the shed. The tram had sat outside in the open at Preston Workshops for some years before disposal, and the external paintwork is faded. There are sections of deteriorated timber-work. The roof is in very good condition, having been “fibre-glassed”. The two trolley-bases and poles, along with the two route number boxes that will come with the tram can be re-fitted by the purchaser. Similarly, there are two headlights accompanying the tram, requiring re-fitting. The tram’s interior are largely intact, but there are no bell cords and the buzzers in the driver’s cabins are missing. The passenger seats are intact but the vinyl seat covers are in fairly poor condition. One saloon half-drop window is broken. The four drop-centre doors are of the original wooden type. The driver’s cabins are intact. The tram sits on two No. 15 trucks but with very little “tread” remaining. One of the leaf springs in one of the bogies is broken. It is understood that the tram is functionally complete and operable. |
